THE ASK: Forecast a theme for the Fall/Winter season of 2024, drawing on research to predict trends within colors, fabrics, patterns, prints, trims, and details.
Utopia explores the fusion of past and future through a retro-futuristic lens. Drawing parallels between the cultural zeitgeist of the 1960s and today, this forecast highlights themes of space exploration, escapism, and the endless pursuit of innovation. A revival of retro-futuristic ideals, this forecast explores bold silhouettes, sleek mod influences, and innovative materials, bridging the past’s vision of the future with today’s evolving fashion landscape.

The project began with defining a clear thematic direction by analyzing the current cultural landscape and projecting its evolution. We identified a futuristic concept grounded in retro-futurism, drawing inspiration from the 1960s, a period that mirrors today’s renewed focus on space exploration, technological optimism, and escapism
color forecast
With the concept established, a color forecast was developed based on a curated moodboard. The palette was divided into two directions. One draws from the bold primary colors of the 1960s, while the other incorporates contemporary, tech-inspired hues to reflect a more forward-looking aesthetic.
textiles forecast
Fabric selection focused on translating the concept into material form. The assortment included innovative textiles, CottonWorks materials, and additional fabrics sourced through research. Prints, patterns, trims, and details were selected to support the overall direction and create a cohesive visual story across the collection.

Street style, runway references, and key items were sourced to support and validate the concept. This research ensured the forecast remained both visually compelling and relevant, strengthening the overall direction of the final collection.
